Materials A specific list of the supplies you need for class.
Daily Routine A question or way to start the class everyday. Helpful to review classroom rules.
Review Content from previous lessons that you plan to review (often with flashcards)
Warm Up A short activity designed to get your students focused on class (if necessary).
Look for ways to informally introduce key language for the day during this time.
Introduce New Content Formally introduce the key language to your students.
Give examples, explanations to present the information in a clear, structured way.
Activate New Content This is where the lesson becomes yours. Think of questions, activities and games that you can use to get your students using and experiencing the key language.
The teacher's guide will provide you with many great ideas.

Where's the¡¦? It's next to the¡¦. What do you see?
Materials CD, hand-made flashcards (for city buildings and objects in those buildings)
Daily Routine Ask students how they are. What day is it today? Write names on board.
Review the classroom rules / discipline system.
Review Classroom language (Put away the books, May I go to the bathroom please?)
Flower, bee, ladybug, frog, lizard, butterfly.
Warm Up Ask students where they like to go. To the movies? To the zoo? (see what they already know) Talk about animal sounds (what sound does a pig make? etc.)
Introduce New Content
  • how flashcards / students repeat (drill each picture 5 times)
  • Show flashcards / ask "What do you see?" (Ss -> "I see a ¡¦")
  • Play CD track 3 ("In My Neighborhood")
  • "Where can I¡¦?" (ex. Where can I read a book?) Use gestures. As students answer the questions, draw the buildings on the board to look like the map in the student book.
  • Show picture of a lady bug and a flower. Ask "Where is the ladybug?" Ss -> "The lady bug is next to the flower." Use hand gesture to indicate next to.
  • Ask students, "Who is next to you?"
Activate New Content
  • Let students get their books. "Please get your Faces student book."
  • Practice numbers - let's count to page four.
  • Play CD track 4. Pause after the questions. Ss answer the questions ex. "Where is the zoo?" Ss -> "It's next to the movie theater."
  • Play CD track 3 (Neighborhood song). After each building is said, pause CD and ask Ss where it is on the board.
  • A, B, C (all students should have very easy time with this) Practice writing. Bring students to the board or give them scrap paper to practice writing.
Closing "Please clean up." - "Please line up" - "Who needs to go to the bathroom?"
