Our academy is located in Banpo dong, Seocho-gu southern Seoul, more commonly known as the Gangnam district. This area of Seoul is considered to be one of the most affluent districts in Korea. It is very popular with Koreans and foreigners due to the surrounding amenities, high level of educational services and its central location.
We are just south of the Han River in Seoul located in southern central Seoul. Three subway stations are close by, Banpo subway station on line 7, Express Bus Terminal subway station on subway lines 2 / 3 and the Seoul National Education University subway station on subway line 2. There are also many city bus routes that pass nearby from the Express Bus Terminal station, which is located within walking distance from our school. Additionally there are inter-city buses running to all the major and smaller cities throughout Korea that you can travel to on weekends or holidays.
Banpo ECC is located close to many department stores, discount outlet malls, restaurants, cafes, movie theaters, and fitness centers. One mall very popular among residents of the areas is Central City Mall, a huge complex with a Shinsegae department store, a multiplex cinema, restaurants, shops, bookstores and even a five-star hotel, the Marriott Hotel.
A bit further away is the Han River Park, a riverside park with an outdoor swimming pool, a jogging path, snack shops, restaurants and a ferry. Downtown Seoul is easily accessible by subway, bus or taxi, and the Itaewon area is just a ten-minute taxi ride from our academy.
Not too far away from our school is the southern business district starting from Gangnam subway station extending to Samsung subway station. At Gangnam subway station there are many trendy clubs and cafes jammed with university students and young professionals working in the IT industry such as Yahoo Korea. At Samseong subway station you can check out Asia's largest indoor mall, COEX Mall, which is also is home to a large aquarium. Nearby here you find the Korea World Trade Center, convention centers and the Intercontinental Hotel.
Banpo ECC currently employs 16 to 19 Native and Korean English teachers. Most of our teachers live in single studios nearby within walking distance to our school.
The current working conditions are as follows; most teachers teach a range of students covering kindergarten, elementary and advance students referred to as our Academy Classes. Large well known established schools like Banpo ECC in the Gangnam district, attract a higher number of advanced students than average ESL schools. Parents in this district pay keen attention to their children's education.
The usual class size ranges from 6 to 12 students and classes are mostly 40 minutes long. Most of our students have two classes a day, one with a Korean teacher and one with a native English teacher. There are five-minute breaks between each class and your schedule could have a break during these hours. The native English teachers are responsible for the native speaker section of our curriculum, which emphasizes speaking, pronunciation, phonics and some reading/writing.
In addition to actual teaching hours, teachers are required to spend time preparing for their classes. This can involve making visual aids that the academy might not have, preparing supplementary activities and planning your lessons for that day or the next day. Most of the curriculum has an accompanying textbook for you to use. Each student has a copy of the book and there is a teacher's guide available to gather ideas from. Some of our older, advanced students may use the CNN curriculum.
Banpo ECC is located in one of Korea's most cosmopolitan districts with many advanced and eager students. Teachers looking to work in a competitive education environment within the affluent Gangnam district of southern Seoul will enjoy working for us.
