A gateway to Northeast Asia with both an international port and international airport, Incheon is located west of Seoul adjacent to the Yellow Sea. A city located 28 km from the nation's capital, Seoul, it lies at 126¡Æ 37¢¥ of east longitude and 37¡Æ 28¢¥ of north latitude.

Incheon is sometimes regarded as part of the greater Seoul metropolitan area due to its close proximity to the capital and the fact that the Seoul Metropolitan Subway and the Incheon Subway systems are linked to one another. Incheon is, however, a major city in its own right and is a separate jurisdiction from Seoul.

The Incheon area has a relatively dry climate. It is affected greatly by seasonal wind. The northwesterly wind hits the region in winter, while the southwesterly wind blows in summer. The average annual temperature is around 11.4¡ÆC, while the average temperature during the month of January is around 3.1¡ÆC below zero and that during the month of August is around 24.9¡ÆC. The difference over the year is 28¡ÆC.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone, the first in Korea, was officially designated by the Korean government in August 2003. The Korean government fully supports free international business and the standards of company management demanded by today's global market.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ): Songdo Area, Yeongjong Area, and Cheongna Area were first to be designated as The Free Economic Zone in August 2003. New Songdo City: a Mecca for international business and high-tech industry, Yeongjongdo: hub of international logistics and international tourism & leisure, Cheongna: global entertainment and theme park.
