Hello Everyone,
Ssangmun ECC (aka Chang-dong ECC) is one of four northern Seoul company owned YBM ECC schools and is also one of the oldest and largest ESL schools in this area. Currently we have more than 20 Native English speakers and Korean English teachers. Located in the Nowon-gu area in northern Seoul and often referred to as an exciting place to hang out and go bar hopping by the local Koreans. The prices here are reasonable and there are hundreds of places catering to locals, foreigners and both. You will have no problems meeting a fellow native English speaker or local Koreans willing to strike up a conversation with you.
Previously we were located closer to Ssangmun subway station (line 4), now however, we are located in a new building with a brand new interior and are within a 10 minute walk to Chang-dong subway station (line 4 and 1). There are beautiful mountains around our school, the air is fresher and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. If you are a hiker you will have access to Dobong Mountain where many locals and foreigners enjoy going everyday.
Our academy provides rent free private housing to its Native English teachers. Many (but not all) of the apartments are located within one block away from Nowon subway station (line 4 & 7) or Changdong subway station (line 4 & 1). Nowon is a major junction in Seoul where subway lines 4 and 7 intersect. This area is quite lively, with lots of pubs, shops, and foot traffic at all hours of the day and night.
Lotte department store is also located within two blocks of the Native English teachers' apartments. This department store is quite large and offers groceries as well as affordable brand name goods. This makes it easy for the teachers to go shopping, have fun after work and on the weekends. We have many different kinds of restaurants around our school that you can choose from. Some teachers order meals to the academy and some go to McDonald's or other fast food chains as well as regular Korean restaurants. The prices are about 3000 to 6000 won on average and you do not have to tip in Korea. Many of these restaurants are just 2 or 3 minutes from the school.
To access other areas in Seoul, like Myeongdong, Hyehwa's Danhangno area, Jongno or Itaewon, you can take subway line number 4 or subway line 1. It takes about 30-minutes by subway from Chang-dong station to downtown Seoul.
