Located just 30 minutes west of Busan, the city of Changwon was modeled after the city of Canberra in Australia. Changwon has been developed into a machinery industrial metropolis with a rapidly increasing population (over 550,000), along with efficient and comfortable urban living conditions. Changwon highway (12.5 kilometers long) stretches through the heart of the city, dividing it into two regions: the resident and commercial in the north and industrial in the south. With national roads and highways connected on all sides, travel is easy and fast, to and from the city. Busan is only 30 minutes away.

Since Changwon has been planed out there many parks and gardens throughout the city to break up the urban atmosphere giving a "greener" feel. Green park areas totaling 14 square kilometers, 5% of Changwon, include 6 nature parks, 9 neighbor parks, and 58 children's parks. There are many kinds of shopping centers throughout Changwon to cater to the needs of all tastes. Another way to enjoy the green space is the well visited tourist site, Junam reservoir which is an important bird migration site and the largest in Korea. At the peak during the winter season, an average of 30 to 40,000 birds a day can be seen here.

To raise sound and competent talent to lead our city in the future, there are 142 educational facilities, which include: one university, one college, 13 high schools, 21 middle schools, 40 elementary schools, and 66 kindergartens. Totaling about 110 thousand students concentrating their efforts on learning. Changwon University is the cradle of education and guides the local development. It has about five thousand students in forty-one departments. For those who are not enrolled at the university, it runs lifelong educational program within the city.
